John has been involved in the shipping business for over 20 years during which time he has developed a deep understanding of all aspects of the industry. His time managing the coal freight book for BHP Billiton, one of the world’s largest charterers who move in excess of 200 million tons of cargo by sea each year, developed John’s commercial and risk management expertise, particularly in the trading of derivatives in the FFA and bunker swaps market.
John has also served as head of Chartering at Alpha Bulkers managing a team of in-house chartering brokers and operators running a fleet of 35 dry bulk carriers. Having worked both for a very large charterer and a significant owner, John is uniquely placed to understand the requirements of all parties involved and the pre- and post-fixture requirements of any trade.
Theodoros has a strong background in shipping with over 15 years in senior commercial and operational roles. He has an academic education in Maritime Studies and Maritime Law. Theodoros was initially involved in Shipping Operations and handled the Commercial, Marine, Safety and Insurance aspects of Amalthia Marine and later in Alpha Bulkers where he served as Operations Manager before venturing out in 2016 and setting up Ellery Shiptrade where he gained significant commercial experience as a ship operator by chartering in Supramax and Ultramax tonnage on period and trading them out in the spot market.
Having worked on all segments of the dry cargo market, from Handies and Lakers up to Cape size vessels, Theodoros has gained a deep understanding of fundamentals and market dynamics of the shipping industry.
